Week 82: Island Ninja

This week I only got to work my new procjam entry and Ninja Attack. This post is gonna be quite short. :S

This is what my entry for last year’s procjam looked like! It was the first time I tried myself at voxel in Pico-8 and as you can imagine, I learned a lot about doing voxels in Pico-8 since! I even wrote a Doodle Insights about the basics and then another one much longer, when I made Lands of Yocta, my first-person voxel walking simulator in Pico-8!

So I decided I would optimize my entry from last year as much as I could and make something cooler with it! And here we are!

This is not finished just yet!

As you can see, the island is larger and also it’s in the middle of the ocean, and there’s a sunset, and there’s lighting!! I actually got to optimize it some more since this I made this gif, but I had to sacrifice the water effect and now it looks really weird, so I have to replace it before showing. But I also want to add other things to it: clouds, stars in the sky, a day-night cycle maybe, seasons again… I have quite a few ideas!

And much like with Lands of Yocta, you can follow along on a Twitter thread!

I’m hoping to maybe finish this island generator this week!

The other thing I’ve been working on is Ninja Attack, again. Sadly I don’t have much to show for it, as it was mostly bug-fixing I did all week. I admit it took a lot more time than I would have liked. See you next week to know whether or not it’s finally all done! :X

And that’s for this week! It was… disapointing and frustrating. I was feeling pretty tired too, which didn’t help. I did get some rest this weekend though, so maybe this next week will be better!

This next week I’m still on Ninja Attack and my island generator. I do want to work on a lot of other tiny projects though, including articles for the blog, so I hope I’ll be able to do some of that as well!

Have a great week!

Take care!
