Week 67: Mine Cart Ride and Low Rez

Rest week. Kinda.

This week was about chilling out a bit. I was really getting overwhelmed with everything I should be doing, so I decided to take a step back and get to it, but calmly. Mainly, I finished the mine cart doodle and I started making something for LowRezJam and then some other smaller stuff.

Here’s the Mine Cart Pico-8 Doodle!

I’m very happy with how it turned out! The particles and the camera behavior make it look really intense, just as I intended! So that’s good!

I also wrote a Patreon-exclusive ‘What Magic Is That?’ about it, where I explain how the whole thing was put together!

Gruber asked me to do the cover art for his next Pico-8 album! What you’re seeing here is an alternative version that he won’t be using! You’ll see the final version when his album gets released late August / early September!

The disc on the cover is based on the data from an actual track of the album! It can be considered as a visualization of it, although obviously I took a lot of liberties to make it look nice and interesting and there’s no way you could get useful data back from the visualization. Looks cool though, doesn’t it? 😀

I’m doing LowRezJam! It’s a gamejam where you have to make a game at a 64×64 resolution! I did it in 2016 too and I made a weird toy/experiment called micro-society!

This year I want to do an actually fun game though! But I’m not exactly sure where I’m going with it yet! So far I’m making a Ping Pong game and I’m putting some extra effort into making it look nice!

Quickly, I want to say that I finally started writing the Doodle Insights #19, about logic data generation. It’s the one that will cover the Wave Function Collapse algorithm, among other things. I made a rough plan of the article and an intro! It’s finally coming! (probably not next week though)

 

That was actually a pretty good week!

Next week, I’m doing my first Pico-8 Doodle commission! I will also be writing more of the logic data generation article and hopefully other write-ups for both the Patreon and this blog! And I will be continuing development on my LowRezJam game!
