Week 62: B-U-S-Y pt.2

Been overdoing it.

This week I have continued work on the contract game and I worked a little on procgen!

Here’s a Pico-8 Doodle!


Last week’s “What Magic Is That?” is not out yet but it will be based on this doodle.

I thought that the work on the contract game this week would be lighter and that I could work on my own stuff next to it. I was very wrong! Instead, a few tasks took much more effort and time than anticipated, swallowing a lot of my time and when the week-end finally came I really needed some rest. Thus the slowdown on articles and other stuff.

Chances are that this next week won’t be very different, sadly.

On bright side, I have been making good progress on the contract game. Here’s what it looks like now:


This game will be an iOS game. You can rotate the Earth with one finger and the whole scene with two fingers. You have to line up the rockets’ targets on the Earth with the rockets’ aim lines so that they land on the right city.

And I do like how it’s coming together!


I did get to work on some procgen anayway! I optimized memory and then CPU, so that now the generation can use all 256 tiles from the spritesheet in theory.

Since I made the gif you’re seeing up there I also made the algorithm more clever and less prone to contradictions, which makes the whole process shorter but also makes the time between frames much longer. And so the generation is much less interesting to watch, which is why I didn’t show it anywhere yet. But I have ideas to make it interesting again!


Before ending this post, I want to talk about Patreon and in particular the Patreon goal I had set for June and which has been reached only halfway through the month! I said that if that goal was reached I would take 48 hours to make something and my patrons would decide what in a pole.

The pole happened and I will be doing an article on accessible code architecture in Lua! That’s cool, I’ve been wanting to write about this for a long time! But of course I can hardly take 48 straight hours to do anything these days.

That’s why this article will be done only later this month, when I have time again, and meanwhile there will not be a July goal. The monthly goal should return in August.
